Faster DNS Response Time in European Union

Managed DNS service provider edgedirector.com
announced today the addition of a service point
of presence in Amsterdam. European users will
notice a dramatic improvement in response times.

The previous minimum response time was 100
milliseconds. The response time will now be
as low as 1 millisecond for the closest
locations. 

Placement of the new edgedirector facility was
carefully selected with a view to reachability
of all major carrier networks in Europe.

The new facility will also form one of the
network test points that the edgedirector
service uses to monitor the health of client
servers for its distributed failover service.

The addition of another test point in the
parallel testing network provides even greater
reliablility in assessing server health.

A recent third party survey of network round
trip response time showed the following
timings for a number of European centers:

The timing results are typical of the results
obtained from multiple tests on multiple days
observed during the acceptance testing period.

In addition to improving performance, the new
facility adds further redundancy, diversity and
capacity to the edgedirector network.

As is the case for all edgedirector facilities, the
Amsterdam pop was subjected to extended acceptance
testing prior to production release.
